I reached the forbidding building on Park Avenue in a black car. I knocked on the closed door and a short bald man opened the door. I entered a bright room lit with glowing candles.By the fireplace, there was a big easy chair with a shining tea table and a smaller chair beside it. A girl in a pretty dress and a cheerful smile appeared from nowhere. I felt shy. On the other side of the barred window, the glorious sun was setting the evening sky aflame. Suddenly, I noticed a sombre man siting on an upholstered divan with a Persian rug over his knees. Behind him was a spectacular painting by Van Gogh. The crimson flowers and the golden cornfields had been painted with passion. I was impressed by the interesting decor of the room. However, the reigning silence was somewhat disturbing.
