During a hot summery afternoon of June
I'd finished my chores and soon
Was called to play the game of carrom
By Mrs Gupta Ji or simply 'Madam'.
But as I was clueless about the game
I sat there, motionless, very lame
Then Madam said, 'O! You're such a fool!
So let me first tell you each and every rule!
'The game is simple to understand,
You can play it with either hand
You have the striker to hit the discs
Though sometimes, there may be risks!
'At times, you may hit it too hard
And send the disc flying off like a shard
Yet if you release it too slowly
You will miss the target surely!
'It's just like the big wide world around
Where countless men abound
And strive to get the coveted prize--
The charming queen with dazzling eyes!'
'But Madam', I queried suddenly,
'Wouldn't it be just heavenly,
If we simply picked up the queen from the board?'
'O! That would be scandalous!' she roared.
What does the speaker do? Who called him for the game?
How did Madam explain the rules of the game?
What were the risks involved in the game?
Why would it be scandalous to pick up the queen directly?
What was the purpose of the powder?
It's just like the big wide world around
Where countless men abound
And strive to get the coveted prize
The charming queen with dazzling eyes!
